7 Overnight Oats Recipes That Are Healthy, Fruity and Give You Extra Time in Bed

Find yourself tumbling out of bed and stumbling into the kitchen more than usual during the colder months?

Working 9 to 5 over winter makes even the best of us skip out on breakfast for just another 10 minutes in a warm bed.

But when it's only 10am at the office and the stomach grumbles hit, you'll be much more likely to reach for whatever sugary snack is on offer and risk putting on the dreaded winter weight!

So, unless your office fruit delivery has enough to sustain you through to lunch time - and we all know how quickly that box can be eaten, especially in London offices! - then you need to start being better prepared for breakfast.

And that's where overnight oats come in to save your morning!

The basic formula for overnight oats consists of dry oats thrown into a bowl or tupperware container (depends if you're eating before you leave for work or when you get there) mixed with a liquid for the oats to absorb overnight - this can be anything from yoghurt to water to milk.

And that's it!

Just put it in your fridge before bed and hallelujah - there it is waiting for you when you wake up! And it can be served hot or cold!

No cooking, no lengthy preperation and you can add whatever fruits, nuts and spices you like to this formula to make it your own.

Need some inspiration? Here's our favourite fruity overnight oats that will kickstart your five a day in a delicious, healthy and filling way:

Yoghurt and Berry Overnight Oats Parfait

  • Mix dry oats into your yoghurt of choice and add a small handful of chia seeds or nuts - if you like.
  • Stir until smooth and add a tablespoon of milk or water at a time until you reach your desired consistency (or skip this step altogether if you prefer it to be thick)
  • Use blueberries, raspberries, strawberries or whatever fruit you like to mix into the oats.
  • Then leave in the fridge overnight and serve when you wake up!

You can even create alternate layers of yoghurt-y oats and berries in a Mason/Kilner jar to make your breakfast feel even fancier.

Apple and Almond Butter Overnight Oats

    • Add a teaspoon of minced ginger
    • Top with a teaspoon of crystallised ginger for a stronger taste
