Summer is finally here! Bring on the light nights, BBQs and the suntans! However, with tanning comes the inevitable: sunburn.
But rather than splashing out on expensive aftersuns and twenty bottles of factor 15, it's time to hit up your favourite London office fruit supplier!
Fruit and veg are wonderful things and we're here to tell you which ones to slather over your body and which ones to snack on to keep your body golden brown rather than lobster red.
Snack!
A great source of ellagic acid which - according to studies at Texas A&M University - can help reduce UVA and UVB damage. Pomegranate also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Slather!
We wouldn't recommend rubbing a whole coconut on your burn (we're sure the rough texture would do way more harm!) But coconut oil is a total god-send, soothing dry, sun burnt skin and leaving it smooth and painless. Ah...
Slather!
Another soothing remedy, cucumber is a common ingredient in many a sensitive skin product and rightly so. Mashed up or liquid squeezed out, it can be applied directly to the burn for instant relief.
Snack!
All of these are just examples of Vitamin C-rich foods that - if eaten regularly - can help to prevent sunburn in the long run as they contain antioxidants that help repair damage to skin cells. Obviously, it'll do little to nothing to eat bucketloads once your burnt so keep eating well and your body will thank you!
It goes without saying that none of these natural remedies are any replacement for high SPF and well applied suncream but they'll be good help if you've come home with a burn and have a cucumber lying around!
Let us know in the comments if any of these remedies are helpful to you over and the summer months and don't forget to leave your own!
