Profile On: Pink Lady

In this week's edition of "Profile On" we look at the firm favourite, the Pink Lady!

What is it?
The pink lady is the brand name for Cripps Pink apple. It was developed in the 1970's by John Cripps in Western Australia, and it gets its distinctive pink colouring from the autumn sun. It's a durable pink apple, and is increasingly popular in the UK. As one of the few apples to have its own brand name, the quality control is high, leading to a more expensive, but always reliable fruit.

What does it look like?
It's shiny, and like the name suggests, pink! It also has some green and yellow around the stem, with white flesh inside.

Other names?
Pink Crisp, Jazz Apple

Where's it from?
Australia

When is it available?
Spring, Autumn, Winter

How do I eat it?
We always recommend you wash apples before eating, but once that's done, just take a bite! You won't regret it!

What does it taste like?
It has a sweet-tart flavour, and is very refreshing.

What are the health benefits?
Arguably the healthiest apple you can eat, Pink Lady apples have the highest level of antioxidant flavanoids, which are great the skin and cellular health.
