Profile On: Grapes

Grapes are one of our staple fruits; our customers love them! So read on to find out more about these delicious drops of heaven.

What does it look like?
Grapes are biologically berries, and come in 3 colours (mentioned below). They have dark brown stalks, and the grapes hang off them in clusters.

What types are there?
White (or sometimes called green); black; and red (purple) grapes. They come both seeded and seedless.

Where's it from?
Grapes originated in Spain - they were taken to the Americas by Spanish explorers 300 years ago.

When is it available?
In the Northern Hemisphere grapes are at their best in late Summer to early Autumn, but they are harvested between May and October. Thanks to global farming, however, they are available all year round.

How do I eat it?
Grapes are easy to eat, just pop them of the stem and pop them in your mouth! The whole grape can be eaten, but the stems cannot.

What does it taste like?
The taste depends on the colour, season and origin of the grape. White grapes tend to be a bit tart and sharp, whereas red and black tend to be sweeter.

What are the health benefits?
Grapes are great - they have protein, Vitamin C, K and B6, they contain fibre, and plenty of copper, potassium and magnesium.
