What is it?
The Conference pear is a variety of pear, which is an autumn cultivar of the European pear.

What does it look like?
They are long and thin with a bright green skin that is mostly covered in russet from bottom up. They have a smooth-textured flesh, and the flesh can sometimes have a slight pink tint to it.

Other names
They are also known as "Belgium pears"

Where's it from?
It originated in Belgium, hence its other name! It is now grown in Belgium, the Netherlands, Britain and in some parts of France.

When is it available?
The English season is between September and May.

How do I eat it?
You can eat it as an apple, including the stem! They are also delicious baked or cooked.

What does it taste like?
They are sweet and juicy!

What are the health benefits?
As with all fruits and vegetables, there are loads of benefits of eating pears! They are rich in fibre and antioxidants (which help with digestion) and can help control cardiovascular disease and cholesterol as part of a healthy diet.
