#HappyNewYear! - Healthy Hangover Cures

New Year's Eve is just a few days away which means it's just a few days until some of you will be so drunk that you're seeing two of every firework. But help is at hand because if you're one of the (un)lucky few to start work again on the first day of the year you'll most likely be reaching for the greasiest of foods to suppress that sickness. However, as it is the beginning of a brand new year, you need to start it off on the right track by reaching for your office fruit bowl rather than the 5am kebab!

  • Water
Alcohol is dehydrating - no matter how much you drink - so when your body runs out of water it will go to the next available place: the brain. The inevitable hangover headache can be avoided by drinking down some H20 before sleeping as well as keeping a bottle handy the morning after.

  • Bananas
Well known for being loaded with potassium which is an important electrolyte that counters the alcohol's diuretic effect - in other words, these yellow wonders can be eaten however you like - be it in a smoothie, a fruit salad or just peeled - and you'll feel a benefit!

  • Kiwi
If you're not a fan of the banana, try a kiwi - it gives you all the same benefits whilst being just as delicious.

  • Fruit Juice
Fructose found in sweet fruit juices such as cranberry or apple can kick start your body to start metabolising the alcohol quicker and send that hangover packing! The sugar also gives you an energy boost to rid you of some of the fatigue of a long night and the water content of fruit juice keeps you hydrated - it's a win/win/win!

  • Coconut Water
Packed with banana-equivalent potassium -  which, as we know, is the key to a speedy hangover recovery - and hydrating to boot, coconut water is hailed as the key to a having a great morning after the night before. As coconut water polarises people's tastebuds, cartons flavoured with pineapple or other natural ingredients are available if the taste of this hangover cure-all makes you want to bring up last nights Pina Colada.
